Belgian 20-franc Leopold II gold coin

Created to ensure the circulation of a common gold currency, four European countries – France, Belgium, Italy and Switzerland – formed, from 1865 onwards, the first European monetary union, known as the ‘Latin Union’.

Inspired by the famous ‘20-franc Napoleon’, this coin enjoyed great success worldwide. Its minting was subsequently discontinued on 1 January 1927.

Today, it is highly sought after by collectors and dealers.
